Preventative Care
Every pet has different needs through the stages of their life. Pets of all ages can benefit from regular visits to their veterinarian. From assessing the appropriate vaccine schedule for a new addition to your family to monitoring the arthritis of an old friend, we are able to assist you in all of your pet's wellness needs. Regular visits allow Dr. Sandino and Dr. Reed to monitor health changes and prevent disease or conditions through examination, tests, and diagnostics before they become an emergency.
Surgery
Macoupin Veterinary Services offers a full range of surgical services ranging from the routine to the complex. Dr. Reed and Dr. Sandino and their highly trained staff and fully equipped surgery suite ensure your pet's safety during and after surgery. We use monitoring equipment to track your pet's vital signs and high quality anesthesia in a sterile environment to minimize risk. We also offer the use of the surgical laser in place of the scalpel blade, which reduces the amount of bleeding and swelling during and after surgery.
Dental Surgery
Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. We use modern and safe ultrasound equipment to clean each tooth thoroughly above and below the gum line. We also polish the teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface that is more resistant to plaque buildup. Digital dental x-ray and dental surgery are also available if necessary.
Digital Radiography
Our on-site, digital X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. We also have the capability to send your pet's x-rays to a board-certified radiologist for consultation.
Ultrasonography
Through ultrasound examination, we are able to perform non-invasive imaging that allows internal organ structures to be visualized by recording echoes or reflections of ultrasonic waves. This technique permits examination of the abdominal structures, diagnose pregnancy, and evaluation of cardiac function. We are also able to electronically submit your pet's ultrasound exam to a board-certified radiologist for a second opinion without your pet ever leaving our facility.
Video Otoscopy
Video otoscopy is the use of a short, rigid endoscope that uses a video camera to transmit images to a larger screen for magnification. To illuminate the ear canal, the scope contains fiber optics that transmit a bright light. The video otoscope contain a working channel, allowing instruments through to obtain samples from deep in the ear canal as well as irrigation to remove debris in the ear canal. The video otoscope is useful in diagnosing and treating ear infections and growths inside the ear. It allows deep ear cleaning; flushing/cleaning behind a ruptured ear drum; and it is useful in for diagnosing, biopsying, and removing tumors in the ear canal.
Laser Therapy
The cold laser therapy is a noninvasive procedure that uses light to stimulate cells and increase blood circulation. Laser therapy can be useful in the treatment of soft tissue injuries, post-operative swelling and discomfort, neck and back pain, and also arthritis. Non-invasive and painless, cold laser therapy produces no dangerous side effects, which gives it an advantage over some medications.
In-House Laboratory
Our in-house lab gives us the capability to perform a routine blood chemistry, CBC, electrolyte panel, and other important blood work on your pet. Results are quick and accurate - often within 15 minutes, allowing our veterinarians to make a diagnosis for your pet and institute the proper treatment without delay. Urinalysis, fecal analysis, and ear and skin cytology can also be performed at the clinic.
Pharmacy
Macoupin Veterinary Services has a fully stocked in-clinic pharmacy so that your pet can get started on a treatment plan immediately after the appointment with us.

Limited Grooming
Macoupin Veterinary Services offers limited grooming services for your pet such as nail trim, anal gland expression, and ear cleaning. We will occasionally perform medicated baths and shavedowns if general anesthesia is necessary, but we do not perform general grooming services.
Euthanasia & Aftercare
We understand the emotions surrounding end of life decisions for your pet and are here to help. When the time comes to euthanize a pet, you can decide to be present or not during the procedure. If you choose to be with your pet, a scheduled appointment time with Dr. Sandino or Dr. Reed will be made. If you choose not to be present, we will stay with your pet. You may take your pet home for burial or we have cremation options through Homeward Bound Pet Crematory and Cemetery. We offer group cremation (your pet is cremated with other animals and no ashes are returned) or private cremation (individual cremation that ensures you receive your pet's ashes back).
